The dress you chose is finally here.
After months of waiting, your gown has arrived at The Art of Bridal and now it's time to see it again.
Your Gown Arrival & First Fitting Appointment is the beginning of the final stage of your bridal journey. We will make sure your gown is fitting beautifully, talk through any alterations required and begin preparing it for the moment you wear it down the aisle.
Gown arrival and first fitting.
-
We will begin by bringing out your gown and taking a moment to see it properly.
After months of imagining it, this is the first time you'll see your gown in its final form with your chosen details, fabrics and customisations all coming together.
We will take the time to make sure everything is as it should be before we begin fitting.
-
You will be helped into your gown by your stylist, just as you were during your earlier appointments.
We will assess how the gown is sitting on your body and how the original fit compares with your measurements and the alterations required.
This is not about expecting the gown to fit perfectly straight out of the gate. It's about understanding what needs to be refined to make it feel as though it was made specifically for you.
-
We will work through the fit from top to bottom.
Depending on your gown, this may include assessing:
The bust and neckline;
Bodice and waist fit;
Corsetry and structure;
Shoulder straps or sleeves;
Skirt length and hem;
Bustle placement; and
Overall proportion and balance.
-
Once we've assessed the fit, we will be able to identify the alterations required and talk you through them.
This might be as simple as adjusting the length and taking in the waist, or it may involve more intricate work to the bodice, lace, sleeves or structure of the gown. This is incredibly dependent on the designer you have ordered and the sizing mechanisms they offer in production.
We will explain what we are recommending and why, so you understand exactly how your gown will be refined. All recommendations are optional and ultimately are for you to decide if you would like to proceed.
-
If you haven't already finalised your veil or accessories, this is also a beautiful opportunity to revisit the complete look.
We'll consider how your veil, shoes and other styling details work with the gown and make sure the final proportions feel intentional. The smallest details can completely change how a gown feels.

06 — Your alterations plan
Before you leave, we'll establish what happens next.
We will confirm the alterations required, what will be addressed at your next fitting and any important dates or considerations leading up to your wedding.
Your gown will then move into the hands of our alterations team, where every adjustment is made with care and precision.
